ผลงานแจ้งเกิดชิ้นเยี่ยมของผู้กำกับ Paul Verhoeven กับเรื่องราวของ อเล็กซ์ เมอร์ฟี่ย์ (Peter Weller) นายตำรวจที่ถูกฆ่าอย่างโหดเหี้ยมโดยเหล่าร้ายที่นำโดยจอมอาชญากรของเมืองที่ ชื่อว่า แคลเรนซ์ บ็อดดีคเกอร์ (Kurtwood Smith) แม้เขาจะเสียชีวิตไป แต่เขาก็โดนจับไปทดลอง โดยทางบริษัทที่ชื่อว่า OCP ได้มีโปรเจคท์จะทำหุ่นยนต์ปราบอธรรมขึ้นมา แล้วก็ใช้ร่างกายของอเล็กซ์นี่แหละในที่สุด เขาก็กลายมาเป็นตำรวจเหล็ก นามโรโบคอป
