เรื่องราวของ “ทอม คาร์เตอร์” (เลียม นีสัน) โคตรโจรฝีมือระดับพระกาฬอดีตมือระเบิดจากหน่วยบัญชาการนาวิกโยธินสหรัฐฯ ด้วยความฉลาดและเก่งชนิดหาตัวจับยาก ทอมทำให้ทางการสูญเสียเงินจากการปล้นไปมากกว่า 9 ล้านเหรียญ จาก 23 ธนาคารโดยที่ไม่มีใครล่วงรู้ว่าเขาคือใครจนเมื่อทอมได้พบกับ “แอนนี” (เคต วาลช์) ผู้หญิงผู้เป็นจุดเปลี่ยนของชีวิตเขาจึงอยากเริ่มต้นใหม่และใช้ชีวิตที่เหลืออยู่กับเธอ ทอมจึงตัดสินใจคืนเงินทั้งหมดให้กับตำรวจเพื่อแลกอิสรภาพและชีวิตที่ปราศจากความลับแต่ทุกอย่างไม่ง่าย เมื่อสองตำรวจสันดานโจรย้อนรอยเขาหวังฮุบเงินทั้งหมดและโยนความผิดให้กับทอมเมื่อความยุติธรรมไม่ได้มาง่ายๆ เขาจึงตัดสินใจออกตามล่าเพื่อล้างบางตำรวจเลวแลกกับอิสรภาพที่เขาควรจะได้รับ!
